Is this course for me?
The main aim of the course is to give learners an introduction to the twin areas of construction measurement and construction economics as well as a basic training in land surveying & GIS (Geographical Information Systems).
Depending on the learner’s background, it may consolidate and advance the skills and knowledge already attained from working in the construction industry. In the context of measurement, real life projects will be discussed from a construction economics perspective.
The Measurement & Construction Economics module introduces the concept of achieving value for money in building with a focus on cost solutions for fireproofing materials. Learners will continue to develop desktop skills in the measurement and the mechanics of mensuration as an extension of the onsite land surveying process. Learners will be introduced to the principles, tender preparation and the elemental approach of cost planning and preparing tenders.
This Land Surveying module aims to introduce students to the basic principles of land surveying and to develop skills required to take linear and level measurements and to represent the results on scale drawings.
