Course Description:
This QQI Level 6 Child Psychology will give the learner the skills and knowledge in psychological theory, concepts and practice required to understand child psychology relevant to childhood education and care settings.

This course is suitable for special needs assistants, childcare staff, teachers, nurses and parents working with children.

Learning Outcomes include:
1. Research theories of developmental change and continuity in infancy, childhood and
adolescence.

2. Evaluate a range of factors influencing and impacting on the psychological development the
child

3. Appraise different theoretical models of child and adolescent development

4. Assess the importance of transitions in influencing a sense of self

5. Analyse different scientific methods and their application in relation to child behaviour and
child development

6. Critically evaluate how the role of social, biological, cultural and historical perspectives affect
the development of children and adolescents

7. Explore the development of gender consciousness and its impact on self-identity in children
and young people

8. Use empirical research in acquiring knowledge and informing best practice and constructing
scientific knowledge in a specific child development, education and or care context.

9. Analyse the implications of own attitudes, values, beliefs and assumptions in relation to
issues of relevant policies and best practice.

10. Identify personal learning goals and assist others in identifying learning and personal
development goals

Format: In class with tutor.

Project 60% and Assignments 40%.

6N2023 Child Psychology

Conditions of Enrolment:
1. Some courses will have restrictions on student numbers.

2. Formation of classes depends on demand.

3. If a class is not formed, fees will be returned or transferred to another class by request.

4. If a class is formed, fees will be strictly non-refundable.

5. Some courses may require students to bring their own materials. See website www.malahidecsadulted.ie for guidance on course description, materials to bring to class and materials that can be purchased from tutor.

6. Courses may be subject to change. Should this happen students will be contacted in advance.

7. We will contact students should a course not form.

8. Students under the age of 18 are not eligible to enrol for courses with exception of Yoga for Teens.

9. Students will not be permitted to enter the school building before 7.00pm.

10. Student mobile numbers are requested in the event a class is cancelled or changed so information may be texted to students.

11. Please note our Autumn 2022 classes are subject to the guidance issued by the Government and the HSE. In the event of a major resurgence of COVID-19 or a local lockdown, some courses may switch to remote learning, be postponed or cancelled.
