Entry Requirements

Applicants under 23 years of age:
Old Leaving Cert (Pre 2017)
Two Honours Level, Grade C3s or above and four Ordinary Level D3s (subjects to include Maths and a language, English, Irish or another language) or equivalent exam taken.

New Leaving Cert
2 H5 and 4 O6/H7 grades, to include Maths and a language (English, Irish or another language).

Applicants over 23 years of age (Mature students):
If you are 23 years or over from the 1st January of this year, you can apply for this course directly using the College’s online application form.

All applicants must be a user of Microsoft Office.

English Language
?If English is not your native language, you must show that your English level is of a suitable standard. For further information please contact a member of the Admissions Team.

In response to the worldwide closure of English Language Test Centres arising from the Covid-19 pandemic, Griffith College is accepting the online Duolingo English Test (DET) as valid proof of English proficiency. This part-time evening course is suited to the aspiring or newly appointed manager, the team leader, the self-employed and those interested in enhancing personal performance.

This course is validated by The Institute of Commercial Management (ICM). This course focuses on the development of professional skills, while it does not sit on the national framework the modules are drawn from Griffith College's suite of QQI-validated degree programmes.

Why Study Business Management at Griffith College?
The Diploma in Business Management course is a part-time evening course conducted over two 12-week periods over an academic year. This course is divided into four modules and is designed to provide a practical grounding in the skills of management.
• You will develop your academic knowledge and practical management skills within the sphere of business management.
• You will gain a firm understanding of the financial management of a business environment.
• You will explore the relationship between an organisation’s strategy, culture, marketing and communications policies and procedures.
• Provides a perfect foundation for participants who wish to progress in the workplace.
• Option to further your studies in the area of business management, with progression to our BA (Hons) in Business Studies degree course through the College policy of Advanced Prior Learning (APL).

Modules
Business Management
On successful completion of this module, learners are able to:
1. assess the roles and skills of managers at various levels of the business hierarchy
2. examine the core management functions needed to manage a business
3. apply the tools and techniques of management and assess the changing environment in which organisations operate
4. discuss the importance of corporate social responsibility and ethics as critical elements of management practice
5. demonstrate and apply key managerial skills, ie analysis, critical thinking, decision making, time management and report writing

Introduction to Management Accounting
On successful completion of this module, learners are able to:
1. describe and discuss the role of the management accountant and their contribution to the achievement of changing organisational objectives
2. identify and explain cost and revenue classifications and cost behaviour patterns
3. describe and apply marginal cost accounting techniques
4. explain and interpret decision-making techniques to evaluate business choices
5. apply budgeting techniques and evaluate alternative methods of budgeting, planning and control
6. compute and interpret basic variances

Technologies for Business
On successful completion of this module, learners are able to:
1. discuss the role that information technology and information systems play in the business world
2. apply IT concepts relevant to business and understand how they relate to each other
3. differentiate information system types, and explain how they are used to shape business operations and the decision-making process
4. apply practical skills in the most common office applications such as MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint as the industry standard

Business Law and Ethics
On successful completion of this module, learners are able to:
1. discuss the importance of law to the operation of business in Ireland
2. describe the essential aspects of the law of contract, negligence and employment law and their impact on businesses and to be able to apply the core principles in a practical manner
3. explain the legal structure of business, including limited liability and the full life cycle of business from formation to winding up
4. explain the role of ethics in business and identify ethical issues and their resolution in a business / organisational context
5. recognise the ethical concerns in situations faced by managers at all levels of business organisation, and analyse theese situation and present solutions while reflecting on one's own ethical values and standards.
