Healthcare Support Skills
Students are offered a practical and theoretical introduction to a career in the caring field. This course gives students a realistic understanding of what the world of work entails and the required qualification for working as care/care assistants. QQI Level 5 Healthcare Support is the H.S.E. recognised qualification for care assistants. New government regulations stipulate that QQI Level 5 is the minimum qualification requirement to work in the care sector. This is also an internationally recognised certificate.

Entry Requirements
Education: NFQ Level 4 or equivalent when accessing a Level 5 programme. CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 5 courses for those whose first language is not English Mature learner entry requirements available via the local ETB pathway Additional requirements may apply to non-EU/EEA Applicants and may be subject to full international fees (Please refer to Information for International Learners) *Each provider may have additional requirements, not outlined above.
Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
Previous Experience: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a moderate range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course, be able to work with responsibility and demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative.

Career Options
Graduates of this course may pursue careers in healthcare e.g. healthcare assistants, hospital porters or continue their studies as paramedics or in the pre-hospital emergency care field.

The student grant is the main source of financial help available from the Irish State for students in full-time Post Leaving Certificate Programmes (PLCs) and full-time higher education undergraduate courses.
