This programme provides students with the essential foundational knowledge, skills and experience needed to work within the healthcare sectors to include a range of settings such as hospitals, residential units, nursing homes and community based facilities.

Applicants will be required to undertake character vetting by the National Vetting Bureau

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Qualifications are acceptable to secure employment across a wide range of healthcare settings to include the public, private and voluntary sectors. Common areas for employment include hospitals, residential homes, community nursing units, nursing homes, community based services and home care packages while servicing diverse needs across the lifespan.
EDUCATION PROGRESSION OPTIONS
Both awards afford progression to degree level to many healthcare related studies. Students who have satisfied the criteria set by the CAO process for progression to third level education may secure a place in many of the Institutes of Technology.

There are no tuition fees payable to Abbeyleix Further Education and Training Centre. However, please note there are costs involved in taking a course e.g. materials, additional training and QQI exam fees.
There is free transport available from Portlaoise, Mountmellick, Portarlington, Rathdowney and Mountrath,
FUNDING
VTOS/PLC places are available on the course (please contact the Centre for further information). The range of financial support available to students includes: Student Maintenance Grant (SUSI) and the Back to Education Allowance. For further information click on HEA Student Finance and SUSI
