Minimum Entry Requirements
Applicants should have a Level 7 qualification in a relevant discipline. Equivalent recognition may be given through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process on an individual case-by-case basis to candidates who have not yet achieved this academic standard but who can demonstrate significant relevant professional experience.

The course is delivered via a combination of face-to-face workshops and online activities.

The course comprises two modules. One focuses on academic writing and scholarship and the other on research methods. More specifically the course aims:

- To foster an understanding of scholarship and develop the skills needed to engage with, use and contribute to it,

- To develop the skills needs to write well academically,

- To promote critical and analytical engagement with literature and evidence,

- To critically consider the research methodologies used in the social and health sciences.

Who Should Apply?
This course is designed as a preparation for higher level study in the broad social and health sciences and education fields. It is aimed at those who wish to pursue postgraduate and/or professional qualifications at levels 8 or 9 who have not been in education for some time and would like to upskill in academic writing and research.

It may also be useful for those who do not have a level 8 qualification (or equivalent) and are applying for further study via recognition of prior learning and anyone who is keen to improve their academic writing.

This programme is an ideal preparation for postgraduate or further professional study in fields such as education, health, social care and business.
