Entry Requirements

Any student over 16 years seeking entry to this programme does not need a previous formal qualification. Should the student have previous qualifications, one of the following may be advantageous for admission to the programme:

- Leaving Certificate/LCA
- QQI Level 4 Award
- Mature students welcome
- If English is not your first language you may be asked to complete an English assessment
- Students who may not have formal academic requirements but who have the ability to successfully participate on the course will be considered. (RPL Recognition of Prior Learning)

Careers / Further progression

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Students who have completed this highly popular course have gone on to work in legal firms, the courts service, private and public hospitals, doctors’ surgeries, community health centres and in the general area of business administration working as executive secretaries/pa assistants. We also have an industry partnership with the Mater Private Hospital and St Vincent’s Private Hospital which has resulted in full-time contracts being offered to some recent graduates following work placement.

PROGRESSION TO DEGREE LEVEL COURSES
The course provides excellent progression routes to a wide variety of degree level courses. Students may progress to participating Higher Education Institutions (HEI’s) through the QQI Higher Education Links Scheme. All of the courses in Cathal Brugha FET are provided through English. Therefore, for those for whom English is not their first language, it is necessary that they demonstrate sufficient competency in English, both written and spoken, to facilitate attendance at classes.

MATURE STUDENTS
The number of mature students attending Further Education courses in Marino College is increasing each year and at present constitutes a significant proportion of our total numbers. Mature students are very welcome and Learner Supports will pay particular attention to their learning needs.

Mature students are welcome to apply. Formal academic qualifications not required.

For all courses, course fees are now free. All students must only pay a €50 non-refundable Registration/administration fee to secure your place; you can pay this fee through our website.

Eligible students can apply for a SUSI Grant to assist with course costs. Please contact SUSI.ie for further information.

Back to Education Allowance
Eligible students can avail of the Back to Education Allowance which enables students to retain their benefit payment while studying. Please contact your local INTREO office or welfare.ie for further information.

Applicants will be invited for interview at an enrolment session in the College. The purpose of this interview is to determine the applicant’s capacity to participate on the course for which he/she has applied. In some cases, applicants may be called for a second interview.

HOW WILL I LEARN?
You will learn through a combination of onsite modules that are assignment based and complemented with online independent study. You will also source and complete a Work Placement in a legal, medical, or business setting that gives you the opportunity to put into practice the industry skills you are acquiring throughout the course. Industry led Workshops on CV preparation and Interview Skills with Mock Interviews and feedback from industry professionals.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
A full QQI Level 5 Award is attained on successful completion of all eight modules. You will be assessed throughout the course (Continuous Assessment) and by exams in certain modules. On successful completion of each module, you will be awarded a Pass, Merit or Distinction.
