Course Description:
Learn the basics when it comes to the computer in a relaxed and friendly environment. This course introduces you to the computer - from file management to how to use Google, to using search engines and understanding security issues and risks involved when using the internet. Also creating and using email and learning how to use cloud storage.

Week 1 – Introduction to the computer & an introduction to different file management techniques

Week 2 - Introduction to Word Processing - Microsoft Word – Home tab: Clipboard, Font & Styles group. View tab: Views, Show, Zoom and Window groups. Review Tab: Spelling & grammar, Read aloud. Differentiate between the different commands within these groups.

Week 3 – Continuing with Word: Paragraph group including indents, spacing, line & page breaks, bullets and how to set tabs. Shading, headings, footers including find and replace. Design tab: adding borders & watermarks to the background of your documents. Print setup.

Week 4 – Continuing with Word - Insert tab: Pictures, tables, Text boxes and how to use them. Layout Tab: Includes paragraph & Page setup group. Mailings Tab: Mail merge.

Week 5 – Introduction to Microsoft Excel – Using the application, Cells, sheets. Overview of the Home tab and its command groups: Clipboard, Font, Alignment, Number, Styles & editing or creating sums.

Week 6 – Continuing with Excel – Managing Worksheets, Rows & Columns, Sorting data & Formulas and functions, including arithmetic formulas i.e., sum, average, min, max, round, absolute if, etc.

Week 7 – Continuing with Excel – Formatting: Numbers, Dates, Cells, Content, Alignment, Border effects, Format painter. Creating, editing different Charts/tables. Print setup.

Week 8 – Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint – How to create a slideshow: Home tab overview, Clipboard, Slides, Font and formatting. Animations and transitions. View Tab: differentiate between different views for your slideshow.

Week 9 – Continuing with Microsoft PowerPoint – Formatting slides to develop/create a slideshow. Insert tab: Slides, Pictures, Tables, Charts, Smart Art, Text boxes, Links, Videos & Audio.

Week 10 - Review of continued work, Complete a Slideshow: Using Slide Master in the view tab. Use of graphics, shapes. how to flip, rotate etc.
