Minimum Entry Requirements
Leaving Certificate: O6/H7 in 4 subjects plus at least one O2/H6. Subjects must include English and Maths or QQI relevant Level 5 Award: Merit. Equivalent qualifications will be accepted. Mature applicants who have relevant industry experience and may not meet the above requirements are welcome to apply.

Careers / Further progression

Progression and Career Prospects
Graduates of the course will find employment in community based and state sectors, working with children and young people in residential care, older people, people with dependency issues. Organisations in which students have secured employment include, Cerebral Palsy Ireland, Cheeverstown House, Menni Services and Barnardos. Graduates have gone on to obtain Level 8 degrees in Social Work, Psychology and Applied Social Studies.

The HND in Social & Community Work has been developed to prepare you for employment in Community Work. This internationally recognised course is also an excellent springboard into third-level education.

You will study a wide range of related dis-ciplines such as sociology, psychology and social policy, all of which are delivered by highly qualified and experienced teachers. The course focuses on the importance of personal and professional development in the workplace.

You will attend college four days per week in first year and three days per week in second year. The remaining days may be used to satisfy the work placement requirements of the course.

Students generally pursue a placement in their vocational area of interest with the support and guidance of the course coordinator. Garda vetting is required prior to commencing work experience and organised by the college.
