This course is aimed at students who are interested in pursuing a career in Accounting Finance. Learners are taught key accounting concepts, principles of accounting and the knowledge and skills required to understand personal and business taxation regulations.

Duration

2 years full-time. The first year of the course runs 4 days a week from Tuesday - Friday 9am to 2pm. The second year of the course runs 3 days a week Wednesday - Friday 9am to 2pm.

Entry Requirements

Leaving Certificate with Pass Grade in 5 Ordinary Level subjects (including 05 in English + either Maths or Accountancy) or Pass Grades in 2 Ordinary level subjects together with 2 Pass Grades at Higher Level (Pass Grades to include a minimum of 05 in English + either Maths or Accountancy). Mature students over the age of 21 do not need leaving certificate results and will be assessed on an interview basis. Places on our fulltime PLC programmes are available free of charge to VTOS applicants (you are over 21 and will be in receipt of a social welfare payment for minimum 6 months by September). We also welcome applications from mature students on all our courses.

Career Opportunities and Progression
Students will acquire the skills and qualifications necessary to take up employment in the following areas: Accounts Assistant, Payroll Manager, Audit Associate, Financial Accounting Assistant, General Ledger Accountant, Internal Audit. Those who are both interested and suitably qualified may proceed (with exemptions) to qualify as Chartered Accountants, or pursue a career in taxation. Upon successful completion of Year 2, graduates may transfer to the third year of a Business Degree in Institutes of Technology.

Enrolment Criteria:
The following criteria may be used in order to offer places on courses to applicants to PLC courses:
- Availability of places on particular courses in the year of application
- Suitability at interview
- Examination results
- Order of acceptance of offer
- Order of Applications
- Completion of registration process in September as per college calendar.

Every effort will be made to ensure that an applicant receives an offer on the course of their choice, however if an offer is not made to an applicant for their course offers will be made on their second and third choices.

Application Process
You can now apply online (see "Application Weblink" below). See steps 1 - 7 below for detailed information.

You must have an educational background which is that of Leaving Certificate standard. Leaving Certificate Applied and Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme are acceptable entry requirements on the majority of courses. There may be specific entry requirements for some courses, and you will find these mentioned on the relevant course pages.

You will be notified of requirements in relation to text books, materials or equipment when you have been offered a place.

STEP 1: You apply online
You apply online using the link "Application Weblink". You can apply at any time. When you complete your application, you will receive an acknowledgement email with login details, username and password, for your new account on our college applications system. You will log into the college applications system regularly to manage your application to Colaiste Ide.

STEP 2: We offer you a place on the course
Places are offered on a first come, first served basis. This is subject to places being available and any specific course requirements being met, such as a Art Portfolio, Soccer and Physiotherapy (Applicants to courses that require additional requirements will be contacted about this)

STEP 3: You pay a registration fee to secure your place
To pay your registration fee (non-refundable €50 for all courses), please click on the login button. This will take you to the login page of the college applications system. Your login details are on the email we sent you. Select the Payments tab to pay your registration fee.

STEP 4: You complete registration & upload your documents
To complete registration, please click on the login button below to log in to the college applications system. Select the Personal tab (to upload photo) and
the Documents tab to upload a copy of some or all of the following documents:

- A suitable passport-style photograph, recently taken, for your student ID card
- Passport or ID Card (with photo) to confirm your identity
- For school leavers, a copy of your Leaving Certificate Results when you receive them or a Statement of Results from your most recent academic course
- Non-EU applicants should hold a Stamp 4 visa. Please upload your GNIB card.
- To protect your data, Colaiste Ide follows the Data Protection Policy and Protocols of the City of Dublin ETB.

STEP 5: You may need to pay deposits (refundable) for equipment online on a small number of courses
To pay the refundable deposit for additional equipment online, please click on the login button below to log in to the college applications system. Select the Payments tab to see the equipment deposit costs (refundable) and to make a payment. All registration fees should be paid by the end of September. If you foresee a difficulty in paying the registration fees by the due date, please contact our Main Office for advice and assistance on 01 8342333 or email info@ide.cdetb.ie

Possible Fee Exemptions
You may be exempt from paying the Exam Fees if you satisfy one of the following criteria:

- You hold a full medical card in your own right
- You are the dependent child of a full medical card holder
- You are eligible for a student grant from SUSI (letter from SUSI required)
- You are getting Back to Education Allowance or a VTOS allowance

Please upload any documentation to prove you have this exemption.

STEP 6: Induction – early to mid September
At Colaiste Ide we are committed to you having a successful transition to college and your induction, which takes place in early to mid September, is the first important step.

At your induction you will meet your Course Co-ordinator, other college staff and your fellow students. You will receive lots of useful information (including your timetable) about your course and the college. We will email you the exact date, time and location of your induction.

STEP 7: Start classes
Your classes are due to start on the week of 16th September. Your college life begins…. We look forward to welcoming you.

They will gain an understanding of core business functionsin management, marketing and law. Learners are schooled in the modern accounting practices, which qualifies them as professional Accounting Technicians.

Note:
The Accounting Technician Qualification Ireland is divided into two parts, each of which is a qualification in its own right: Certificate for Accounting Technicians (1 Year); Diploma for Accounting Technicians (2 Years).

At the end of their two years of study and having complied with all the requirements of Accounting Technicians Ireland, students will be awarded the Certificate MATI (Members of the Accounting Technicians Ireland).

Accounting Technicians Ireland, in a recent survey of their members, state that “almost 95% of our members are employed. As an Accounting Technician you will be qualified to work in many types of accountancy jobs. There are always a strong demand for these skills in the marketplace.
