Entry Requirements
Education: No formal education or qualifications are required although applicants may have participated in primary and secondary education. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate a standard of knowledge, skill and competence equivalent to NFQ Level 5 when accessing a Level 6 programme.
Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
Previous Experience: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a broad range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course and be able to exercise initiative and independence when carrying out course activities

Programme Progression
This course prepares students for employment in the role of Senior Carer and Supervisor. These positions may be in the following services HSE or Private Hospitals, Care Homes, Nursing Homes, Day Centres, Centres for people with specific physical and/or intellectual needs. There are also positions in a wide range of Social Care setting providing services to people across all ages.
Following this course students are also in the position to apply to third level for a wide range course in health, social care and other diverse areas. For example, Social Care Practice, Social Sciences, Leadership and Management, Counselling, Human Nutrition, Health and Exercise Science and many more.

Students taking Further Education Courses are eligible for PLC maintenance grants. These grants are means tested and depend on individual financial circumstances. All grant applications are handled by SUSI (Student Universal Support Ireland) www.susi.ie
Programme Aim
The programme is offered on a full-time basis, however, as a level six course there is less contact time, with more time allowed for self-directed learning. This allows students who are already working in Healthcare sector to continue on a part-time basis whilst working towards a qualification that can enhance their promotion opportunities.
All modules are relevant to a senior carer/supervisor role within healthcare services including supervising staff and managing workplace conflict. The student will gain a deeper understanding of how to assess service user/client’s needs and promote their health and well-being following a person-centred approach. The student will also learn valuable ITC skills relevant to their future role, for example staff rotas.
