Classics - Introduction to Greek Art & Architecture

This lecture-only module comprises of two classes per week over one term, commencing in September 2023. Classes will be taught in a classroom on the Trinity campus.

€170 full rate, €90 concession rate.

The concession rate is available to all those retired, over 65s, and those on a government pension / payment plan and the unwaged, including second- and third-level students.

The module, led by Dr Giorgos Papantoniou, places art and architecture in its social, political and cultural context. It explores themes such as the representation of the human form, the use of narrative and mythology in art urbanisation, and the development of architectural forms such as temples and theatres.

Giorgos has worked as an Mediterranean archaeologist and material culture historian at the Department of Antiquities of Cyprus, and as a researcher and visiting lecturer at the University of Cyprus, the University of Bonn, the University of Sassari and the Open University of Cyprus, as well as Trinity. His research agenda is based on interdisciplinary and diachronic approaches bringing together landscape, archaeological, textual, iconographic and anthropological evidence.
