Higher Education Entry Criteria
Each Higher Education programme has its own distinctive entry requirements. This is set as a minimum UCAS points for entry. On some programmes, applicants must also hold subject specific qualifications to gain a place. Therefore, it is essential that you check entry requirements for each programme you are applying for. Please note, these are qualifications that applicants must have completed and certified to gain entry onto the respective programmes.

Applicants must hold a GCSE pass at Grade C/4 or above in both English Language and Mathematics. Level 2 Certificate in Essential Skills - Application of Number and Essential Skills Literacy may be regarded as an acceptable alternative to GCSE Maths and English.

We recognise that prior learning or experience may give some students credit towards a qualification to gain entry onto a programme or credit towards a programme of study. Please refer to our Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) process.

Please also note: The College reserves the right to increase the entry requirements for all Higher Education provision based on demand and required academic standards, as specified by the Awarding Body/validating organisation.

Applicants applying to programmes validated by university partners (UU, QUB and OU) who hold international qualifications must provide certificates to determine equivalence before an offer can be made.

Enhance entry criteria for this course is listed below:
- Applicants should also have a minimum of 64 UCAS points.

- GCSE Maths and English at Grade C or above (or equivalent). Please contact us if you have a Grade D in English as we may be able to assist you.

These requirements can change and be discussed on an individual basis if necessary.

Proof of qualifications MUST be provided when you enrol, e.g., exam certificates.​

All courses within Belfast Met are delivered and assessed in English, apart from language-specific courses. Your competence in English must be verified prior to enrolling on your chosen course.

Careers / Further progression

Careers
Upon completion of the HND, opportunities exist to progress to further full or part-time study e.g. degree programmes or to professional qualifications such as the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Accounting Technicians Ireland and Institute of Leadership and Management. Or you can proceed to employment in the following areas:

- Financial analyst/accounting
- Marketing /brand marketing/digital marketing
- Sales representative/customer service
- Human Resources/equality and diversity

All HND students have the opportunity to progress final year of Ulster University BSc (Hons) Business Studies degree.

Overview

By the end of the HND programme you will be able to:
- Identify the main functions and roles within business, and explain their relationship with each other, and with the external business environment.

- Examine the social, legal, cultural, and ethical impact of business and management decisions on both the organisation and its environment.

- Explore how organisations are managed and developed to meet future needs of stakeholders in a rapidly changing business environment.

- Develop and apply, academic and business skills including numerical and statistical methods, academic and business writing, communication, and presentation skills

- Develop and apply key soft skills including team working, coaching, leadership critical thinking skills, innovation, creativity, and enterprise to issues in a business context.

- Take ownership of your learning journey through effective time management, managing academic work and other commitments.

- Apply a self-reflective and active approach to your learning journey at Belfast Met.
