Students can choose to prepare for the IELTS exam with ATC Language Schools. The IELTS exam is an internationally recognised English language exam that is accepted by universities and employers worldwide, for study and work. The exam tests students on speaking & listening, and reading & writing.

ATC’s IELTS exam preparation course in full is an 8-week course, the timetable is the same as ATC’s General English course and students can transfer between them following discussion with their teacher.

The full 8 week IELTS preparation course looks at each section of the exam separately. Students will practise exam techniques each week based on what has been covered.

ATC can arrange for students to take the exam locally, it is not included in the course.

ATC Language Schools offer preparation for the Academic IELTS exam, the General IELTS exam preparation can be offered separately in discussion with ATC.

Students of all ages can prepare for the IELTS exam with ATC, it can be used to confirm your level of English abroad or at home. The IELTS exam score is recognised internationally by employers, governments, universities and more.

Students that choose the IELTS exam preparation with ATC will learn about all areas of the internationally recognised exam. During the full 8 week course students will develop their vocabulary in a variety of topics and also practice skills that will be used in the exam. The Academic IELTS exam includes sections on Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening.

The course is divided into 8 weeks, covering 2 topics per week. For each topic there is a focus on developing grammar and vocabulary, this will allow the student to be confident in a range of areas. The different exam techniques are practiced, this ensures the students are comfortable with using the grammar and vocabulary in a variety of ways.

The course is planned alongside the exam preparation course book and also uses additional material including previous exam papers. Students will practice each skill and topic with real IELTS exam test papers to ensure that by the time they sit the exam, they are confident in their abilities and familiar with the exam format. Using exam papers allows students to put the theory into practice and use the skills they have been developing in an exam context.

In a typical week, students taking the IELTS course can expect to be assigned tasks to complete as homework, these tasks usually support the intended learning outcomes of the week through exam-style writing practice, vocabulary expansion and development of reading skills. As well as homework assignments, students are assessed by the class teacher through exam focussed assessment with each week specifically focussing on a key skill area.

Teachers at ATC Language Schools use the communicative approach, taking a learner-centred approach with a strong emphasis on communicative tasks aimed at developing the necessary skills to succeed in the IELTS exam. Students use meaningful and authentic language to promote learning in a motivating and engaging setting. Students work on a variety of interactive and collaborative pair and group activities to meet daily learning outcomes focused on developing their exam skills.

Students can join the IELTS exam preparation course any Monday through the year, however to get the optimum results ATC advise taking all 8 weeks in succession at least once.

During the summer, students can also choose an introductory 4 week IELTS preparation course, with a key focus on exam techniques and practising with past papers.

The minimum level for our 4 week courses is B2 – please contact us to confirm your level.

All students choosing ATC’s IELTS preparation course have the option of additional lessons in the afternoons, and free teacher tutorials.

All teachers with ATC Language Schools are degree qualified and all hold an internationally accredited English language teaching certificate.
