Entry Requirements

Applicants will require a high level of motivation and interest in the discipline, have knowledge of business operations, along with the ability to analyse and evaluate information to draw conclusions, inform decisions and or propose solutions.

These attributes will normally be evidenced through one of the following minimum requirements:

An NFQ level 7 major award (or equivalent) in business or cognate discipline, or
An RP(E)L application evidencing satisfaction of the level 7 award standards for business.
Applicants whose first language isn’t English must demonstrate a minimum competency in the English Language of CEFR B2+.

Admission to the part time blended learning mode of delivery requires the learners to have access to a laptop or PC with Microsoft Office and internet access and evidence of familiarity with the use of Microsoft word and navigating the internet.

Applications are also welcome from individuals who do not meet the standard entry requirements but wish to apply for entry based on prior learning (RPL) or prior experiential learning (RPEL). The College will thoroughly assess applications received through RPL and RPEL to ensure that candidates are able to evidence learning to an appropriate standard – normally the framework level equivalent to the direct entry qualifications requirement and demonstrate potential to succeed and benefit from the programme. Applications submitted on this basis will be assessed in line with the College RPL policy.

Careers / Further progression

Upon successful completion of the programme students may progress to further study at level 8, including Higher Diploma conversion programmes in another discipline, or to advanced study at level 9, including Postgraduate Diploma and Masters programme in the business discipline. They will also be qualified to secure graduate positions in business.

The Monitoring Ireland’s Skills Supply 2020 report published by Solas and the National Skills Council highlights the increased employment potential of graduates with a level 8 award, and specifically references business graduates. The report states: “In quarter 2, 2020, 64% of the 469,700 recent graduates were in employment, representing 299,000 persons. The higher the NFQ level, the higher the share in employment… the highest shares were observed for those with level 8 qualifications (77%) or postgraduate qualifications (83%).” The report further highlights that “At 80%, the highest share in employment was for recent graduates in health, vet & agriculture. This was followed by STEM and social science, business and law graduates at 76% and 73% respectively.” These statistics indicate strong employment opportunities for graduates of level 8 business programmes.

Graduates of the CCT Bachelor of Business Honours programme have secured roles including: Social Media Agent, QA Analyst, Buyer, Tax Technician, Assistant Store Manager, Production Team Leader and Customer Sales Advisor, Social Media Manager, Events and Speakers Coordinator, Cash Clearing Account Manager, Regional Manager, Process Executive, Assistant Manager and Executive Assistant.

The Bachelor of Business Honours, add-on, is designed to provide an academic progression route for graduates of level 7 degrees in business or a route to an honours degree via RP(E)L for applicants with relevant experience and or professional qualifications. The programme produces graduates with the academic, intellectual and transversal skills to enhance their employability, ensure their capacity to remain competitive in an ever-advancing sector, and equip them for further study. The programme will provide graduates with the knowledge, skills and competence to operate effectively in the business environment, equipping them to question, analyse, synthesise and critically evaluate situation and context in seeking solutions to business problems.

The programme comprises of 60 ECTS of modules which reflect the essential curriculum to prepare students for employment in leadership or management roles in a commercial enterprise. The programme utilises a carefully designed curriculum structure with modules focussed on specific disciplinary areas of significance to business practice and operations. These modules facilitate the acquisition of discipline specific knowledge, skill and competence along with the development of transversal skills. The programme will produce graduates equipped to enter organisations in graduate level positions or progress to further academic study at Masters level.

An authentic assessment model is reflected in the programme assessment strategy. Summative assessment is a blend of integrated assessment and module specific assessment utilising both group and individual work, and the programme assessment strategy also features a capstone assessment. Formative assessment is integrated into module delivery through both in-class and independent study activities enabling students to self-assess and / or be assessed by faculty to determine their progress towards attainment of learning outcomes. Summative assessments also include a formative element with feedback provided to learners. The capstone Applied Business Practice module requires students to integrate the learning from the programme’s modules and apply this to a real-world business scenario or problem, provided with the support of the CCT Industry Engagement Forum.

In full-time delivery mode students will attend on-campus classes for 15 hours per week and will be expected to engage in independent study outside of the class time.
