This one-year course provides students with a programme that is an ideal starting point for learners wishing to pursue a career in Physiotherapy or work as a Physiotherapy assistant. It prepares students to work alongside a physiotherapist, assisting with patient handling, patient care and supervised use of physiotherapy equipment.

Entry Requirements

Leaving Certificate with five O6 grades (or five passes pre 2017) or equivalent is the standard entry requirement for Level 5 courses. Leaving Certificate Applied or QQI Level 4 Award are also acceptable on the majority of Level 5 courses.

Some courses have subject specific requirements and these will be noted on relevant course pages.

A QQI Level 5 award or equivalent in a relevant subject area is the standard entry requirement for Level 6 Advanced Certificate courses.

Career Prospects
Graduates are eligible to apply through the CAO and/or the Higher Education Links Scheme for entry to year one of a range of higher education and degree programmes at Institutes of Technology and Universities.

Graduates are eligible to apply to an Irish Hospital or Residential Care setting for a position as a Physiotherapy Assistant.

Good News Regarding Your Course Fees

In August 2022 Monaghan Institute and CMETB announced plans to significantly reduce fees on full time courses. This means that your course fees have been reduced to a maximum of €200. If you have a Medical Card/Social Welfare Payment, the fee will be €150. This fee includes all course materials, exam fees, toolkits, and uniforms.

Additional courses:
First Aid Responder and Fitness Sessions course fees are also fully funded by Monaghan Institute and CMETB.

Full-time learners may be eligible to apply for PLC maintenance grants, which are means tested. For further details, visit www.studentfinance.ie or www.susi.ie where applications can be made online or downloaded.

You can apply online now. Applications close in October each year and reopen for the next academic year in January.

Is this course right for you?
This course will give a knowledge and understanding of the variety of skills necessary to work within the Physiotherapy Industry. It will give an introduction to assessing and treating clients presenting with injuries or disabilities, from the healthcare sector to the sporting industry

What will you study?
This programme covers a wide range of topics with particular emphasis being placed on practical application in the areas of anatomy, physiology, and physiotherapy assistant skills. Work Experience forms an integral part of the course and learners are required to gain work experience within a practice to gain practical experience and application.

Students will also gain a qualification in ITEC Sports Massage Therapy which provides the skills and knowledge to plan, prepare, and provide a range of sports massage methods to clients.
