Entry Requirements

Who can apply?
This course is suitable for students who have an undergraduate qualification of 2nd Class Honours or higher at Honours Degree level. Experience of the media industries is an additional advantage.

Applicants without a Level 8 qualification may be considered provided they can demonstrate Honours Degree equivalence which can be verified through the RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) process.

Two references must support your application.

An online portfolio of your work should be submitted with your application. You may also be asked to attend an interview.

Graduates go onto radio, online content providers, the broadcast media, advertisement agencies, production facilities, company in house production facilities, state and civil society bodies and indeed any group involved in the creation and distribution of audio content.

What is it?
This is an ideal course for those who want in depth, real and the industry standard practical skills required of video or mobile journalists. Learn how to produce and direct a short documentary or narrative video package to Irish and European broadcast standards.

This is an intensive 6-week course where you will learn from active practitioners in the industry standard facilities of the National Film School.

What will I do?
You will develop the creative skills required for producing a story driven video package up to final delivery and dissemination across various platforms. These include idea research and development, storytelling, and video journalism. Technical competencies include location audio recording, lighting and single camera operation, postproduction editing and final delivery of video packages. Students produce a video project comprising a significant short documentary or a piece of video journalism.

What modules will I study?
This is a single module certificate.

Sitting alongside the MA in Digital Broadcast Production will enable you to incorporate your skills into your production practices and in your future professional roles.
