Entry Requirements

Standard minimum entry requirements for all courses in BCFE:
• Minimum statutory school leaving age (16+)
• CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 5 and Level 6 courses for those whose first language is not English.
• Additional requirements may apply to non-EU/EA Applicants and may be subject to full international fees. Please refer to Information for international students.
• A PPS number is required for registration. Please refer to How to get a Personal Public Service (PPS) Number.
• The academic entry requirements may be waived for mature applicants (21+)

Minimum entry requirements for all level 5 courses
• QQI Level 4 award or equivalent
• Five O6/H7 in Leaving Certificate/LCVP or a Merit in Leaving Certificate Applied or a relevant QQI Level 4 certificate.

In addition to the Entry Requirements, please note for this course you will also need to support your application with a written statement of your interest in this area, and if possible, including evidence of your experience and links to you performing on your instrument of choice. On application you will be advised by the college on how to submit this supporting documentation.

• Graduates with a Merit profile may apply for entry to BTEC Higher National Diploma courses in BCFE, such as:
o Music Production Level 6 (PEH)
o Contemporary Music Performance Level 6 (PRH)
o Irish Traditional Music Performance and Traineeship in Instrument Making, Repair and Maintenance Level 6 (PTH)

• Graduates of this course may also apply through the CAO and/or the Higher Education Links Scheme for entry to higher and advanced certificate and degree programmes at national Institutes of Technology, Technological Universities and Universities (applicants should confirm linked awards and eligibility requirements with the relevant Higher Education Institution).

Why Choose Music Performance?
This course is for you if you want the opportunity to explore and further your musicianship and performance skills.

You will gain knowledge of music theory and its practical application to musical styles and genres including writing your own songs.

You will explore the structure of the music industry in addition to gaining practical skills in recording and producing music as a modern production environment. You will also learn to plan and organise events as part of this course, and you will be supported by lecturers who are experienced musicians and industry practitioners.

This course will help you decide if you want to further your studies in this area or to use this qualification to gain access to a range of other progression courses at further and higher education level.
