Is this course for you?
This course is suitable for you if you are new to your role in management or supervisory management or if you wish to gain this valuable qualification and find a job in this sector.

To commence this course, ideally you will have achieved Junior / Leaving Certificate standard or appropriate QQI Qualification or equivalent. Mature Applicants with relevant life and work experience are welcomed. Where deemed appropriate you may have to complete an English Language Proficiency Test.

What are my progression routes?
This course leads to a level 5 award on the National Framework of Qualifications. Students who successfully complete this programme may use their credits towards completing a higher level of study in the area of Business.

Students who successfully complete this Major Award can also use the Certificate as the basis for entry into selected courses in Third Level Colleges and Universities.

Through this programme you will discover how to:
Explain the key terminology associated with the recording and maintenance of bookkeeping records, using manual and computerised systems

Outline the advantages and disadvantages of a computerised system over a manual one for recordkeeping purposes

Complete the books of first entry with appropriate VAT and departmental analysis from the information contained in a range of source documents to include; invoices, credit notes, bank records, petty cash vouchers

Post the information from the daybooks to the appropriate accounts in the ledgers

Extract a trial balance at the end of an accounting period

Prepare a Bank Reconciliation Statement from data supplied

Prepare the end-of-period VAT Return in accordance with the requirements of the Revenue Commissioners

Process all tasks as per the manual ones using an accounts package, comparing manual and computerised results

Analyse tasks completed making appropriate corrections to any errors and editing of data as directed

Print a selection of reports after backing up computerised data on a suitable medium.

The course 5N1354 Bookkeeping Manual and Computerised assessed in the following ways, with the following weighting;

Project 50%
Examination Practical 50%.

Project 50%;
A project is a individual to a brief with guidelines, that will be given to you on the first session of your course. They are carried out over a period of time. Projects involve: research – requiring individual investigation of a topic related to your course.

Examination Practical 50%;
An examination will assess your ability to recall and apply skills, knowledge and understanding within a set period of time (time constrained) and under examination conditions. This will be a written examination of 2 hours duration.

Pass 50% - 64%
Merit 65% - 70%
Distinction 80% - 100%
