Entry Requirements

In general you need to have a minimum of 5 passes at ordinary level in the Leaving Certificate or its equivalent. Applications are welcome from students with Leaving Certificate Vocational, Leaving Certificate Applied or QQI Level 4 qualifications. Exceptions can be made where special circumstances apply on a case by case basis. The Leaving Certificate is not a requirement for mature students and appropriate experience can be considered as meeting the entry requirement for most courses.

There is now no cost associated with making an application for a course.

A €50 registration cost (which is non-refundable) will be paid by the applicant at the point of acceptance of an offer of a place on a course.

In addition to the normal PLC registration fee, costs which up until now have been paid directly by a learner themselves for items such as uniforms, equipment or fees to external exam bodies will now be covered by City of Dublin ETB.

Possible Fee Exemptions:
You may be exempt from paying QQI Exam Fees if you satisfy one of the following criteria:

You hold a full medical card in your own right
You are the dependent child of a full medical card holder
You are eligible for a student grant from SUSI (letter from SUSI required)
You are getting Back to Education Allowance or a VTOS allowance

Colaiste Ide provides an opportunity for you to investigate your interest in Forensics and Investigative Sciences. The study of Forensics, Criminal Law and Criminology is an excellent preparation for application to An Garda Siochana, the Defence Forces, forensic science laboratories and the State Laboratory. The students are expected to complete work experience, it is included to give them an opportunity to explore their preferred area of future study in investigative sciences or forensics. Extensive careers advice and advice on higher education opportunities is an integral part of the programme. Participants will be facilitated in investigating their personal strengths and talents and receive one-to-one guidance to ensure they achieve optimum outcomes from this innovative programme.

What Will I Study?
Modules you will study include Criminal law, Criminology, Crime Scene Investigator, Chemistry, Maths, Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, Team Working, Laboratory Skills and work experience.
