Students are required to approach their analogue photography practice in a creative, explorative and analytical manner. Students explore and develop their ideas through a chosen project and are required to make informed artistic choices when using analogue cameras and studio lighting, developing film and making prints in the darkroom.

The module explores the appropriate criteria, meta-language and visual grammar for reading and interpreting photographic images. The course also explores the principles of photography within its contemporary and historical contexts. Students will be expected to give time to taking photographs outside of class hours for group analysis and discussion within class time.
