Refunds: No refunds, under any circumstances, are available once a course has commenced.

If you have paid for a course which is subsequently cancelled, you will be notified and a full fee refund will be processed automatically. Refunds if processed are processed on a weekly basis and take approximately 2-3 weeks to present in the applicant bank account.

All other courses must remain viable and be self-financing: therefore a participant will not be permitted to commence a course/module unless the course/module has been paid for in full by the learner prior to commencement.

Course Title - Special Needs Assisting 6N1957
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence in the theory and practice underpinning the education and care of those who present with special educational needs to enable the learner to assist in the provision of this education and care.

1. Evaluate the provision of education for people with special educational needs with reference to current legislation
2. Assess the various educational options available in Ireland for people with special educational needs
3. Examine relevant theories, skills and processes relevant to curriculum implementation
4. Explore the differences between integration and inclusion
5. Organise learning opportunities in order to promote independence and responsibility
6. Evaluate the importance of the multidisciplinary team in devising Individual Education Plans
7. Analyse skills that can be used to aid the teacher in the administration of the national curriculum
8. Assess interventions and behaviour management techniques that may be used in the learning environment
9. Manage meaningful activities that are suited to people¿ needs and connect with their experiences and interests in the learning environment
10. Identify strategies for dealing with stressors within the workplace
11. Provide assistance in the provision of education and care for individuals that present with special educational needs
12. Reflect on own attitudes, values, beliefs and assumptions in relation to working with and on behalf of people who present with disabilities.

Viable courses:
For a course to commence, it is necessary to enrol a minimum number of participants. If this number is not reached, the course will be cancelled.

Course deferral:
Once a course commences, participants may not defer their place on that course to another term.

Transfers policy:
If a participant wishes to transfer to a different course within the same term, a request should be sent by email to info.gti@gretb.ie

Assignments / projects:
Dates for submission of coursework will be provided by the tutor at the beginning of the course. Coursework will not be returned to the participant once submitted for assessment. Therefore, it is advised that a hard copy of all coursework submitted should be retained by the student.

Self-directed learning:
It is the responsibility of the participants to inform themselves as to course content, duration, etc.
