Duration

The course extends over a minimum of 15–18 months

Entry Requirements

Applicants must be a holder of a Level 6 or higher major award in a non-agricultural discipline. Applicants must also have continuous access to a commercial farm in the Republic of Ireland (home farm or approved nominated farm) to develop proficiency in farm tasks and complete farm based assignment and projects. They must have access to all farm details including financial details on the nominated farm and are expected to spend time weekly on this farm and be involved in the farm operation and management.

Careers / Further progression

Graduates of the course are eligible to progress to the Teagasc Higher Education Farm Technician Apprenticeship or apply for entry to linked courses through the Higher Education Links Scheme.

Programme: Teagasc Distance Education Green Cert Programme (For Award Holders)

A. Teagasc part-time and distance education programmes are designed for older learners rather school leavers.
Teagasc Distance Education Green Cert programme is an accelerated route for those who have already attained a non-agricultural major award qualification at or equivalent to Level 6 on the Irish National Framework of Qualifications. This programme requires a greater level of self-directed learning by the learner.

The course content for both the part-time and distance Education Green Certificates is the same. The table below gives a sample of what the learner will study.
