Law & Criminology
This course provides students with an introduction to the Irish legal system and general law subjects, with a clear focus on criminology. Although the same QQI Award as Legal Studies this course focusses on crime and criminal law, and will include seminars and events in this arena, such as prison or criminal court visits and input from stakeholders related to crime and law such as Garda crime prevention officer*.[*Subject to Covid-19 guidelines and restrictions] Students may also choose work placements for work experience in this particular vocational area.

Legal Clerk, Paralegal, Legal Executive, Administration in Law Office, Garda Siochana, Probation Services, and those stakeholders who work close with Gardai and Courts for crime prevention. It is suited to students who wish to progress to a degree in law at third level specifically Criminal Law. This course is designed to help students develop the essential skills and techniques which form the basis for a career in business, commerce, public service or the legal industry. It will also enable learners to obtain a general understanding of legal principles and allow them to appreciate the role of the law in their personal and vocational lives. It is also intended to prepare learners for employment or further study in related areas.
