This special purpose award is the new professional qualification for tour guides. The course is delivered through an integrated mix of on campus lectures, off site visits to key tourist attractions and self-directed learning over three days each week.

Entry Requirements

Successful completion of QQI level 5 (or above) in a related field of study.?

Mature students with experience in the tourism industry, and those who are considering a change of career may be eligible.?We also accept application from those without a formal education.

A deep interest in all aspects of Irish history/society and excellent interpersonal skills are also strongly advised.

Note: If you intend purchasing a device to complete assessments and access notes for this course, a device with Microsoft Windows Operating System Is recommend, with a minimum of 128 GB. All enrolled students will be provided with a free Microsoft 365 account.

Careers / Further progression

Career Opportunities
This course will qualify successful participants to work as a self-employed tour guide or to seek employment in the tourism/heritage industry throughout Ireland. It also delivers essential skills to those who wish to participate in business and promotional aspects of the industry.
