Children’s Nursing
About the Course
Being a Children’s Nurse involves everything from nursing a sick new-born infant to an adolescent injury from a sports accident. On this course you will explore how a healthy child develops towards adulthood traversing the challenges of childhood illnesses and accidents.
A child may not be able to communicate the severity and nature of pain, so you will learn the importance of your communication skills to interpret a child’s behaviour and reactions and to communicate with the wider family, including parents and carers.
Children’s Nursing takes place in a range of settings including hospitals, day care centres, clinics and in the community such as a child’s home. On this course you will learn about the role of multidisciplinary teams that look after children such as doctors, hospital play staff, healthcare assistants, psychologists and social workers.
In addition, you will have the opportunity to apply for the Erasmus+ programme which will allow you to gain work experience in a nursing environment overseas for a three week period.
