The course will equip you with the knowledge, skill and competence to understand the roles andresponsibilities of care workers, the needs of groups requiringcare and the interpersonal qualities needed to work in a range ofcare environments.

Entry Criteria
Entry criteria / prerequisites Level 4 or relevant life experience detailed in a current Curriculum Vitae. Please provide details and attach a copy of either a current CV or Certificate. Learners must be a resident of Ireland / based in Ireland.

English
As this NFQ level 5 qualification is delivered through English it is necessary learners will have sufficient written English skills to complete this course. Forus Training recommends a minimum English language competency of IELTS 5.5 (or equivalent) for successful completion of this programme. If you are not sure what level of English competency you have, please contact hello@forustraining.ie and a Course Advisor will arrange for you to take an assessment.

IT Skills and Equipment Required
Basic working knowledge of computers and access to a computer with internet access is required to do the course. A PC with Windows 8 or later or a Mac with OSX 10.5 or later.

An internet connection with a speed of at least 10mbps.

The latest version of Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari, set to accept cookies and pop-ups.

Adobe Flash and Adobe Reader, to view content.

Word processing software, such as MS Word or Google Docs.

Some courses include video, therefore your computer must be capable of playing video and sound.

Careers / Further progression

What are my progression routes?
This course leads to a level 5 award on the National Framework of Qualifications. Students who successfully complete this programme may use their credits towards completing a higher level of study in the area of Health and Social Care.

Students who successfully complete this Major Award can also use the Certificate as the basis for entry into selected courses in Third Level Colleges and Universities.

A comprehensive course covering the needs of groups requiring care. Understanding the roles and responsibilities of the care worker and developing personal and interpersonal qualities essential to the care of client groups while acquiring practical skills for work in caring environments.

Through this programme you will discover how to;
Identify a range of specific groups in need of care in the community to include children, adolescents, adults, older people, those with special needs

Discuss the care in the community needs of these specific groups to include their physical, emotional, social and intellectual needs

Summarise the role of a care worker with a range of different client groups to include specialists working in statutory and voluntary care provision

Discuss the caring qualities necessary for working with different client groups

Examine the skills involved in total patient care

Demonstrate caring qualities when working with people in care situations to include recognition of their requirements for privacy, independence, dignity and positive self-image

Employ a range of interpersonal qualities to include awareness of the different feelings of clients, relatives and colleagues in specific situations and positive responses to the needs of these groups

Give assistance with total patient care in the workplace to include the correct use of basic tools and equipment

Suggest how the care in the community needs of a range of specific groups can be met to include a typical daily routine that aids their physical, social, intellectual, emotional and spiritual well-being

Contribute to planned activities with clients in the workplace

Recognise the therapeutic value of leisure pursuits and social activities for clients.

The course 5N2705 Care Provision and Practice is assessed in the following ways, with the following weighting:-

Assignment 60%
Skills Demonstration 40%

Assignment
An assignment is an exercise carried out in response to a brief with specific guidelines as to what should be included. An assignment is usually of short duration and may be carried out over a specified period of time. The tutor will devise two assignments with a weighting of 30% each.

Skills Demonstration
A skills demonstration is used to assess a wide range of practical based learning outcomes including practical skills and knowledge. A skills demonstration will require the learner to complete a task or series of tasks that demonstrate a range of skills.

Pass 50% - 64%
Merit 65% - 79%
Distinction 80% - 100%

What qualification will I receive?
You will be awarded a certificate 5N2705 Care Provision and Practice.
