Applied Language Centre - Portuguese General Purposes 2
This module is designed for students who already have some knowledge of the Portuguese language, but who wish to move beyond a basic level of competence and focus on the acquisition of the vocabulary, functions and structures necessary for everyday oral communication purposes.

Learning Requirements:
Having completed Portuguese for General Purposes 1, or a CEFR level A1.1 or equivalent in this language.
Learning Exclusions:
Students with Junior Certificate or Leaving Certificate (or equivalent) in this language are not eligible to take this module.

Open Learning allows you to select the modules you wish to study, set the pace of your study, and whether you undertake the module assessment. It also can lead to undergraduate degree entry in UCD if you are taking the Certificate in Open Learning (30 credits) or if you are a Mature Student you can take one module (5 credits) in lieu of the MSAP exam.
There are 14 Progression Pathways to choose from Students who earn 30 credits (6 x 5 credit modules) receive a NFQ Level 7 Certificate in Open Learning. This can be used to apply through the CAO for dedicated places on 14 different UCD degree programmes depending on Grade Point Average (GPA) and modules completed.

To get started, you need to first complete and submit an online pre-registration form. Applications will reopen again on 8 August 2023.
The objective of the module is to enable students to develop competence in a range of language tasks performed in familiar contexts. The module will provide the opportunity to explore aspects of Portuguese culture and society. This module will be delivered via small group teaching with classes having a maximum of 18 students. Students will also have access to extra resources and materials via the Virtual Learning Environment, Brightspace.
Please note that the Applied Language Centre’s modules can only be taken for credit (i.e. with assessment) and not for audit.
