In this 6 week course we really hope to demystify some of the basics of DIY. Have you ever had a small job around the house you wish you had the confidence to tackle yourself? Have you always wanted to know the ins and outs of a combi drill?

The course aims to introduce students to basic DIY techniques and tools, material selections, and a few of the most common DIY jobs in an inclusive and female friendly environment.

The course will cover:
– Timber: selection, marking, cutting.
– Drills: using a drill, selecting drill bits, screwdriver heads and screws
– Finishes for timber: varnishing, staining, oiling, painting.
– Wall repairs: patching plasterboard, multi purpose fillers, caulking and silicone
– Wall fixings: wall types, various fixtures and fittings, hanging a shelf.

Elaine is a self proclaimed jane of all trades and master of none. From a young age she had a keen interest in how things were built and put together. She was lucky enough to learn many DIY skills from her father, followed by a FETAC level 5 in carpentry & joinery, and a BAHons in architecture. This background education, balanced with her own extensive house renovations, has driven her to want to make DIY approachable to all!
