Entry Requirements

Minimum
• Applicants must be 18+ years of age on entry to the course.
• Leaving Cert, LCVP, LCA or QQI Level 4 Major Award.
• Mature applicant route available for applicants aged 23+.
• Competent written and spoken English (CEFR B1 or Higher).
• Non-EU/EEA applicants must have permission to work in Ireland.

Additional
• High level of physical fitness is essential.
• Understanding of and sensitivity towards the natural environment is an advantage but not essential.
• Demonstrate participation, membership or leadership in sporting and outdoor activities is an advantage but not essential.
• Excellent communication & interpersonal skills.
• Excellent numeracy skills.
• Basic computer skills.
• Positive, adaptable, self-motivated team player.
• Garda vetting is a requirement for this programme and participation is subject to a satisfactory outcome of the Garda vetting process.

What are the employment opportunities?
Graduates will seek entry level positions as assistant instructors in adventure centres, adventure tourism companies and private enterprises.

The Level 5 Outdoor Activity Instructor course is the ideal starting point for anyone who is interested in developing a career in the Outdoor Adventure Tourism and Education Sector.

This course has been designed to provide business with personnel who are qualified as Outdoor Activity Instructors.

The aim of the course is to provide the trainees with the skills and related knowledge in Outdoor Activities to operate as instructors. To develop their attitudes, personal effectiveness and job seeking skills that will enable them to obtain employment in the outdoor recreational industry. To use specific training modules to enable the participants to become self employed.

CERTIFICATION
Industry recognised personal proficiency and leadership qualifications from relevant National Governing Bodies (Mountaineering Ireland, Canoeing Ireland and Irish Sailing).
