Community/Youth Work is a highly rewarding career. Individuals who choose this course should be energetic and highly motivated to make a difference. A voice and advocate for social change, driven to work with disadvantaged individuals and groups.

This course is spilt between classroom based learning in Cavan Institute and work based learning within the Community and Voluntary Sector. It will prepare learners with the range of skills and knowledge to implement and deliver community development programmes to young people that adhere to the key community development principles of participation, empowerment and collective decision making.

This course requires a full time commitment for 18 months, it is open to mature learners and we welcome applications from those in employment. It is fully funded and there are additional allowances for individuals participating on the course. To find our more contact Michelle on 0494353924 or email michelletilson@cmetb.ie

Individuals will source their own work placement so it is important that they have thought about the type of community/youth work that they would like to do. It is not essential but it would benefit individuals to have some experience (which can be voluntary). This experience will help in the recruitment process and benefit individuals in deciding what direction they might want to take in their career. Please note that we complete Garda Vetting for this course.

On completion of the course individuals can also apply for the ERASMUS+ programme to volunteer abroad for between 5-21 days. The EU grant supports travel as well as practical and activity-related costs necessary for the exchange.
