Entry Requirements
It is desirable that students should be of Leaving Certificate Standard or have achieved an Applied Leaving Certificate with Distinction. Portlaoise Institute welcomes applications from mature students. Mature students are assessed on their merits and do not require the above qualifications.
All students are required to complete an assessment and interview before commencing a Further Education course in Portlaoise Institute. This assessment confirms if the student has the required level of English to complete a Level 5 course.
Careers / Further progression
This qualification has extensive links to higher education courses at levels 6, 7 and 8.
The opportunities include degree courses in business, law, humanities as well as degrees in sustainability

Description
The environment is the burning issue of the 21 century and is now a significant growth area for employment. Large and small organisations are now investing sums of money to meet the stringent environmental laws imposed on them and it will expand. This course will also give learners the opportunity to develop business skills that can complement areas such climate change, renewable energy and sustainability.
