The Feldenkrais Method is a unique movement-based approach of learning with the focus on mindful movement and awareness of communication between brain and body. The learning relies on Neuroplasticity, the ability of the brain to change and adapt as long as we live. Neuroplasticity is stimulated through precise, directed attention to a sequence of gentle and unusual, novel (new) movements done slowly.

Movements done this way change how we move, think, feel and sense ourselves. This is the classic Greek idea of ‘Soma’, hence the Feldenkrais Method is also called a method of Somatic Education.

This practical course is an introduction to the Feldenkrais Method and is designed with gentle movements and lots of opportunities so that you may notice ease of mobility, increased strength and stability, fuller breathing, better coordination and flexibility.

Please bring your own mat.

1st Lesson: Dynamics of reaching while turning spine in sitting, including head and eyes
2nd Lesson: Clarifying shoulders, arms and spine for lightness
3rd Lesson: Finding Gravity – Stability – Mobility by rolling with fun
4th Lesson: Curves of the spine – solve the riddle with ease and precision
5th Lesson: Connecting Legs and Arms to Spine in lying for efficient walking
6th Lesson: Reaching for the Stars – experiment with Diagonals for natural uprightness

Susanne has a life-long interest in exploring the mind-body connection – as a teacher, visual artist, mother, sea-swimmer and gardener. When she experienced herself how powerful and effective the movements of the Feldenkrais Method are for the prevention and treatment of pain, she decided to train in the Feldenkrais Method to be a Feldenkrais Practitioner/teacher. She is a European (GCFP) Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner (teacher), and graduated from the 4-year international training in the Feldenkrais Method in 2012. Since then she has been teaching weekly Group Classes and Workshops in the Theatre Department in University College Cork and other venues as well as On-line via zoom. She is a member of the Feldenkrais Guild UK and Feldenkrais Ireland.
Her aim is to give you an experience of what natural, pain-free, functional movement feels like as you gain knowledge and skills to moving well.
Her students have a wide range of interests and include Tango dancers, violin teachers, singers, walkers, swimmers… and anybody who wants to improve how they move !
