Course Description:
Lámh Module 1 Course. Module 1 is a standalone course. Details below.

What is Lámh?
Lámh is a manual sign language system designed for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and communication needs in Ireland.

This course is for Staff working with children and adults, with special needs, who use Lámh to enhance their communication. It is very suitable for Teachers, SNAs, Social Care Workers, PAs and Preschool & AIMS staff, Volunteers and others, who work in preschools, mainstream and special schools, adult support services and other settings. It may also suit parents and family members.

Participants must attend the two sessions, which comprises the full certified Lámh Module 1 Course. The course materials include LÁMH Module 1 books, LÁMH Certificate and the LÁMH Signs-online digital resource.

Course Content
This course covers an Introduction to Communication, Implementing Lámh at home, preschool, classroom, work & other settings, learning 100+ signs, communication breakdown with people with children and adults with a disability.

Course Format: Face to face in class.

Module One is for those who:
- Require an introduction to Lámh
- Have started to work in an environment where Lámh is used
- Have specific contact periods with Lámh users
- Do not need the 580 signs (yet)

Aims & Objectives By the end of this course, participants should be able to:
- Use the 100 signs from the Module One Book
- Use Lámh as an effective communication tool
- Contribute to assessment or decision making around Lámh
- Participate effectively in an established Lámh environment.
- Use Lámh as part of a Total Communication approach.

Where does Module One fit in with the rest of the Lámh training courses?
- An Accredited Lámh Course
- Can be taken as a stand-alone course
- Module 1 is a requirement to undertake the QQI Level 5 Course Using Lámh in the Context of a Total Communication Approach.
- Is designed for those working in an environment where Lámh is used.

What will it cover?
- 100 Module One Lámh signs
- Communication and the impact of communication breakdown
- Implementing a Signing programme in your setting
- Setting up a Signing environment
- Development of Lámh.

Conditions of Enrolment:
1. Some courses will have restrictions on student numbers.

2. Formation of classes depends on demand.

3. If a class is not formed, fees will be returned or transferred to another class by request.

4. If a class is formed, fees will be strictly non-refundable.

5. Some courses may require students to bring their own materials. See website www.malahidecsadulted.ie for guidance on course description, materials to bring to class and materials that can be purchased from tutor.

6. Courses may be subject to change. Should this happen students will be contacted in advance.

7. We will contact students should a course not form.

8. Students under the age of 18 are not eligible to enrol for courses with exception of Yoga for Teens.

9. Students will not be permitted to enter the school building before 7.00pm.

10. Student mobile numbers are requested in the event a class is cancelled or changed so information may be texted to students.

11. Please note our Autumn 2022 classes are subject to the guidance issued by the Government and the HSE. In the event of a major resurgence of COVID-19 or a local lockdown, some courses may switch to remote learning, be postponed or cancelled.
