Gardening with Marie Hirst.

Course Description:
Build up knowledge and confidence to manage your own garden. From the importance of good soil and plant maintenance to pruning techniques and garden design. An introduction to plant names and how to identify plants will also help you when buying plants.

Course Content:
The 10 - week course will cover the following topics, in theory and practical classes:

• The structure of plants and how they grow.
• Propagation (2 practical classes)
• Gardening language! - annuals, perennials, etc.
• An introduction to plant names and plant identification
• Soil and soil improvement. (theory and practical)
• What plants need to thrive – plant nutrition.
• Plant maintenance and pruning techniques. (practical)
• Garden design – planning beds and borders

The course is given by Marie Hirst, BSc Horticulture. Marie graduated from the Teagasc College of Amenity Horticulture in the National Botanic Gardens. She has also completed the Royal Horticultural Society Advanced Certificate in Horticulture. She has worked in and managed two busy garden centres over 15 years. After studying Social and Therapeutic Horticulture, she set up her own practice called Unwind with Plants.
