Interior Design -Materials & Finishes- QQI Level 5
Course Content
The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill, and competence to exploit the characteristics of materials and finishes expressively within interior design, stage setting and display contexts.
1. Investigate factors which influence the development of materials and finishes, including economic, technological, scientific, and aesthetic
2. Examine the features of materials and finishes in interior design, film/stage set or display context for one specific period in history, including with reference to the rationale behind specific design features, for example technological limitations
3. Research materials and finishes in a historical and contemporary context through studying primary sources
4. Explore the essential properties and characteristics of a variety of materials and finishes
5. Comment on specific impacts and interplay between surfaces and materials
6. Interpret a range of finishes and surface using drawing and other material
7. Produce a range of design solutions to set briefs addressing a range of different contexts, including meeting interior design, stage or film set and display requirements in historic and contemporary traditions and working methods
8. Present designs in response to specific briefs, using sample boards, modelling and other presentation techniques as appropriate, on time and with awareness of budget
9. Establish a process of working using personal ideas, primary and secondary research to provide a strong basis for the development of a range of responses to briefs
10. Demonstrate responsible workshop practice including with regard to health, safety and environmental practices
11. Demonstrate critical awareness of the qualities of own and others work
