Entry Requirements

Education: NFQ Level 4 or equivalent when accessing a Level 5 programme. CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 5 courses for those whose first language is not English Mature learner entry requirements available via the local ETB pathway Additional requirements may apply to non-EU/EEA Applicants and may be subject to full international fees (Please refer to Information for International Learners) *Each provider may have additional requirements, not outlined above.

Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.

Previous Experience: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a moderate range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course, be able to work with responsibility and demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative.

All places allocated are subject to interview. At present demand exceeds supply. Garda Vetting must be completed at the interview stage.

This part-time QQI Level 5 Health Service Skills Course is designed to prepare students to work competently, safely, and effectively as a Healthcare Assistant in a variety of settings such as nursing homes, hospitals and home help support. This is an industry-recognised qualification. It is also a preparatory course designed for students who intend to pursue further training in Health and Care in the Institutes of Technology and in universities. The caring modules run over one day and if you wish to complete the full award, we also offer the remaining modules on a separate day. To enhance your employment opportunities, we also offer manual handling/patient moving, First Aid Responder, and recognising and responding to Elder Abuse in Residential and Community Care setting.

The aim of this programme is to enable the learner to acquire the knowledge, skills and competence to work under supervision in a variety of healthcare settings to enhance their role in service provision to service users or to progress to further and or higher education and training.
