Entry Requirements

This is a top-up qualification for graduates of recognised postgraduate educational leadership and/or educational management diploma programmes. A minimum of a postgraduate diploma in educational leadership and/or management or cognate areas e.g. school leadership (60 credit, level 8 threshold) will be required for entry to the programme.

Note: there must be a gap of at least one academic year between completion of the recognised postgraduate educational leadership and/or educational management diploma programmes and application to the new top up Masters programme.

Graduates of MU's past leadership programmes, i.e., Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership programme (HDEDL/MH61G) and Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Management programme (HDEDMG/MH59G) are eligible to apply.

Graduates from non-Maynooth University postgraduate diplomas in educational leadership and/or educational management programmes (60 credit, level 8 threshold) i.e. from other universities are eligible to apply.

The Top-up Master in Educational Leadership and Management result will be calculated based on 30 credits only, made up of modules ED684 and ED685, see details of these in the module list below (Approved Academic Council December 2019).

Note places on the T-M.Ed. ELM are limited, so the closing date is provisional. There is a limit to the number of applications accepted, and places are allocated first come first served. The PAC application process will close when places have been filled and applicants should apply early to avoid disappointment.

Maynooth University graduates of the PGDELM/PGDEL are not required to upload supporting documentation. However, please ensure that you complete all sections of the form. Maynooth University graduates who gained qualifications at other institutions should submit official copies of those qualifications.

All non-Maynooth University applicants must upload the following information to your online application: full official transcripts of results for all non-Maynooth University qualifications listed. Non-Maynooth University students are asked to provide a copy of their birth certificate or a valid passport. The full official transcripts MUST accompany the application. Failure to do so will delay your application being processed.

T-M.Ed. ELM is part of the Future Leaders Pathway Programme. This Top-Up Masters programme (Level 9, 30 ECTS) is for graduates of recognised postgraduate educational leadership and/or educational management diploma programmes. A minimum of a postgraduate diploma in educational leadership and/or management or cognate areas e.g. school leadership (60 credit, level 8 threshold) will be required for entry to the programme.

The Future Leaders Pathway Programme is designed for teachers/educators at all levels who are seeking or who are already in leadership roles, as well as for those who are seeking to develop leadership skills in their educational settings. The programme is designed specifically to build your knowledge, competence and expertise as you undertake your education leadership journey. It is designed and delivered by experienced leaders, educators and academics from a variety of professional education roles and has input from national and international academic/practitioner experts in the areas of educational leadership and management. The T-M.Ed. ELM programme is a nationally and internationally recognised qualification from the National University of Ireland, Maynooth at level 9 on the NFQ.

For T-MAELM, students complete two modules in order for students to be awarded a Master’s degree:
