Entry Requirements

Any student over 16 years seeking entry to this programme does not need a previous formal qualification. (Min. age for Emergency Services careers through publicjobs.ie is 18) However, the student must demonstrate at interview the capacity to successfully participate on this programme. This includes both the academic and work experience elements of the programme. Should the student have previous qualifications, one of the following may be advantageous for admission to the programme:
- Leaving Certificate/LCA
- QQI Level 4 Award
- Students who may not have formal academic requirements but who have the ability to successfully participate on the course will be considered. (RPL Recognition of Prior Learning)
- Interview
Garda Vetting required.

The purpose of this award is to enable the learner to develop the knowledge, skills and competencies required to undertake a career in the primary emergency services such as the Ambulance Services. Students wishing to access careers in emergency services should register for updates with Publicjobs.ie. Students are responsible for checking eligibility requirements. There are also employment opportunities available to students with private ambulance and event medical providers.

Students may also progress to participating Higher Education Institutions (HEI’s) through the QQI Higher Education Links Scheme. Some degrees will have specific module requirements. Please Check at CAO stage. You can also select “any award” in the same search box and this will return all courses open to students who have successfully completed a QQI Level 5 course.

Students may progress to The National Qualification in Emergency Medical Technology (NQEMT-EMT), UK Level 3 Diploma in Ambulance Emergency and Urgent Care Support, UK Level 4 Diploma for Associate Ambulance Practitioners offered by DX2 Training Solutions. Possibility of entering Paramedic degrees in U.L. , UCC & U.K. subject to entry requirements.

To supplement and enhance QQI modules the course will offer specialist training during the year on PHECC Emergency First Response (EFR), Manual Handling and Aptitude Test preparation.

The company Test Preparations will also assist with Psychometric guidance

HOW WILL I LEARN?
You will have a mixture of classroom-based subjects, clinical practicals, mandatory work placement and independent study. You will be expected to complete assignments throughout the year. Course work will consist of a combination of onsite & online learning.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
A full Award is granted on passing relevant eight components. You will be assessed throughout and at the end of the year (Continuous Assessment). On successful completion of each component, you will be awarded a Pass, a Merit or a Distinction grade.
