Higher Education Entry Criteria
Each Higher Education programme has its own distinctive entry requirements. This is set as a minimum UCAS points for entry. On some programmes, applicants must also hold subject specific qualifications to gain a place. Therefore, it is essential that you check entry requirements for each programme you are applying for. Please note, these are qualifications that applicants must have completed and certified to gain entry onto the respective programmes.

Applicants must hold a GCSE pass at Grade C/4 or above in both English Language and Mathematics. Level 2 Certificate in Essential Skills - Application of Number and Essential Skills Literacy may be regarded as an acceptable alternative to GCSE Maths and English.

We recognise that prior learning or experience may give some students credit towards a qualification to gain entry onto a programme or credit towards a programme of study. Please refer to our Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) process.

Please also note: The College reserves the right to increase the entry requirements for all Higher Education provision based on demand and required academic standards, as specified by the Awarding Body/validating organisation.

Applicants applying to programmes validated by university partners (UU, QUB and OU) who hold international qualifications must provide certificates to determine equivalence before an offer can be made.

Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) for HE Courses
APL allows you to use evidence from prior learning or experience to gain entry onto a course at Belfast Met. Overview
Computer game development is now a multi-billion industry and is one of the most exciting and innovative areas in computing today. The global video game market is expected to reach a value of £187 billion by 2025. Currently the UK has over 2100 active games companies working to deliver experiences on a wide range of platforms including PC, Console, Mobile and more recently through Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality. It is one of the most exciting and innovative areas in computing today.

Esports is considered one of the fastest growing industries in the world, it's leading the way in live events production, broadcasting and streaming, and content creation. The industry is made up of professional players, games publishers, event specialists, broadcast/streaming providers like Twitch and YouTube, coaches, managers, health and fitness experts, phycologists and wellbeing teams.

At Belfast Met, our Foundation Degree will look at the esports industry as a whole but focusing on broadcast production.

Our course sits in the creative and digital technologies department within the college which has years of expertise in esports, games, media and music. Our lecturers have incredible industry knowledge and contacts across gaming, technical events, production technology and broadcasting. We also run our own commercial businesses; you will have the opportunity to run your own Esports arena. As well as working with industry experts within the Esports industry.

We have fantastic links with industry, meaning that you will be working closely with the likes of Northern Ireland Esports, Ireland Esports and Wylde gg. Just to name a few!

This Foundation Degree offers a balance between academic and vocational modules. This enables you to learn authentic research skills, practical skills and soft skills, which are all key in your career in the creative industries.

Within individual modules the delivery of the material encourages increasing levels of skill development and student participation, ensuring that as you progress through the course, you become a more confident and independent learner.
