This course will allow you to find your specialism/ pathway in the areas of Construction Management, Architectural Technology, Modern Methods of Construction, Quantity Surveying or Civil Engineering.

Entry Requirements

48 UCAS points and minimum of 5 OLCs at Grade 04 or above to include English and Mathematics OR a BTEC National Diploma at MP grade or above OR a BTEC National Extended Diploma at PPP grade or above in a relevant area of study (including OLC Mathematics, English or equivalent Level 2 qualification). Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) can be considered for entry.

Additional Requirements Prior to Entry: Attendance at Information Session.

Careers / Further progression

Further Study
Successful completion of year 1 of the course, the HNC qualification, will allow students to progress into year 2 - the Level 5 Higher National Diploma qualification which will be delivered subject to numbers of progressing students. Successful completion of year 1 will also allow progression to another higher education qualification such as a university degree in a construction, renewable technologies or a built environment related area. Students who continue at NWRC and complete year 2, the HND qualification, can be offered second year entry to university built environment programmes subject to meeting university requirements. Successful completion of the HND at NWRC will allow students to gain direct entry into year 2 of the BSc (Hons) in Architectural Technology and BSc (Hons) in Construction Management courses at Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Donegal, formerly LYIT. Students can also choose to study the Tender and Procurement unit as part of their qualification which will allow direct entry into year 2 of the professionally accredited BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying course at ATU.

Career Prospects
This is an industry recognised qualification and the course has been developed to meet requirements of a number of professional bodies, including the Institution of Civil Engineers, Chartered Institute of Architectural technologists and the Chartered Institute of Building. The course will therefore prepare students for employment in a range of careers in construction and the built environment, including architectural technology, civil engineering, building services engineering, quantity surveying, construction management and renewable engineering either with design consultants, contractors or the public sector.

Course Overview
This course is designed to equip students with the skills, knowledge and the understanding necessary to achieve high performance in the built environment and renewable technologies construction sector. The sector is a priority skills area and offers many opportunities for those qualified to progress into employment as designers, engineers, contractors or as consultants. The HNC and HND qualifications in Construction have been updated to link more directly to sector career pathways. This course will allow you to find your specialism/ pathway in the areas of Construction Management, Architectural Technology, Modern Methods of Construction, Quantity Surveying or Civil Engineering. The course will provide you with an understanding of the way technologies are transforming the industries of construction and renewable technologies in preparation for work within a challenging and rewarding industry. In year 1, you will complete a HNC in a chosen construction pathway. Successful completion of this year will allow you to progress into year 2 and complete the HND qualification. Note: Delivery of year 2 of the course will be dependent on the number of students intending to progress to HND.
