This course is aimed at those who have an interest in Computing and would like to develop key industry specific skills and knowledge with a desire to pursue a career within the sector. Further Study
Successful completion of the course depending on grade enables progression to the second year of the BSc (Hons) Computer Science at Ulster University, to similar degrees at other universities, or directly into Computing and IT related employment.

Course Overview
This course is aimed at those who have an interest in Computing and would like to develop key industry specific skills and knowledge with a desire to pursue a career within the sector. It will give students the ability to study a range of modules with opportunities to explore different specialisms and a chance to consider a wide range of career opportunities within IT and Computing. The FdSc in Computing is developed in close partnership with the UU, and a consortium with other colleges in N. Ireland to design a course to meet the needs of the growing sector. The course will provide students with a thorough understanding of the key concepts required to work within a thriving sector or undertake further study at honours degree level in the area of ICT and Computing. Over the duration of the course, the students will study a range of modules including: programming fundamentals, computer technologies database design, web development, software testing, AI fundamentals, introduction to virtualisation and cyber security.

Work placement will take place in the 2nd year of full- time study. Students will be supported to find a suitable work placement. To enhance career opportunities upon completing the course, students will undertake a 400-hour Work-based Learning module during their final year. The course will allow students to enhance industry networks and prospects in a range of job roles within the sector upon completion of the course. There will be many opportunities to link with: local employers through work-based learning including arranged guest speakers, site visits and career networking events.
