Gym Instruction & Sports Injury
This one-year course aims to equip graduates with the practical skills and knowledge to pursue careers as fitness instructors and sports coaches, or to provide an alternative route to third level education in a wide range of subject areas. This course offers a broad introduction to Sport, Exercise and Recreation studies, providing learners with the necessary skills to take up employment at entry level in the leisure industry.Learners will improve their knowledge, competence and understanding of physical fitness and sport both practically and theoretically

Entry Requirements
It is desirable that students should be of Leaving Certificate Standard or have achieved an Applied Leaving Certificate with Distinction. Portlaoise Institute welcomes applications from mature students. Mature students are assessed on their merits and do not require the above qualifications.
All students are required to complete an assessment before commencing a Further Education course in Portlaoise Institute. This assessment confirms if the student has the required level of English and Maths (if applicable) to complete a Level 5 course.

An acceptance fee of €50, to be paid when offered a place on a course.
