Caring for the Child with a Life-Limiting Condition - Level B Programme
The aim of this clinical professional development (CPD) module programme is to provide the participants with opportunities to acquire additional knowledge, principles, experiences and values, supporting the nursing care required to meet the needs of the palliative child with a life-limiting condition and their families.
Duration
5-7 day programme. The theoretical component of the programme will be delivered over a 3-week time frame.

Learning Outcomes:
On completion of the programme, the participant will be able to:
Examine the principles and philosophy of Children’s Palliative Care, and its impact on the delivery of supportive and holistic care for a child with life-limiting conditions
Analyse the stages of child development in relation to life-limiting conditions and the trajectory of the condition to the time of death
Assess, plan, implement and evaluation therapeutic aspects of nursing care and treatment for children with life-limiting conditions from a palliative care perspective
Embrace a palliative care approach to end of life care, grief and loss of the child with a lifelimiting condition and their families, including siblings
Demonstrate leadership and communication skills within health and social care systems (statutory and voluntary) to provide quality child and family centered care
Outline how policy, finance, and regulatory environments impact care for the child and family.
