This course has been developed to provide the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to understand the concepts and terminology and principles of Bookkeeping in the Workplace and produce and maintain accurate bookkeeping records for a range of organisations, using manual and computerised systems. Key elements of the programme include understanding the elements of financial Statements & Reports, Day Books, Bank Reconciliations VAT Returns & ROS systems, accruals & prepayments, control accounts & account reconciliations as well as a key understanding of key performance indicators.

Entry Requirements

- Individuals who have an interest in finances and bookkeeping /accounts and may wish to pursue it as a career.
- Persons who have bookkeeping responsibilities in and organisation for Individuals/teams involved in finance /bookkeeping – to be able to understand the importance of analysing and presenting accounts.
- Managers and team leaders who wish to gain an insight into finances, accounts, budgeting and costing.
People who wish to gain a formal qualification in bookkeeping.

Careers / Further progression

PROGRESSION
Upon successful completion of this programme, the learner will be able to produce and maintain accurate bookkeeping records for a range of organisations, using manual and computerised systems. Mapped onto the NQF at level 5, you may use this module as a minor award towards gaining a full major award in many different Level 5 programmes. MIDAS Learning use this module as one of the compulsory modules for the Major Award in Business Administration (5M2468). This Certificate will enable you to progress to other programmes at level 6 or higher including colleges and higher education providers. INDICATIVE CONTENT
-Understanding basic bookkeeping concepts and terminology
Skills and competencies to produce and maintain accurate bookkeeping records for a range of organisations using manual and computerised systems
-Developing skills in numeracy, neatness and accuracy in respect of recording transactions, summarising these and interpreting the results.
-Acquiring the knowledge and skills to record transactions in a manual accounts system, books of prime entry, ledger A/Cs and Trial Balance.
-Advantages of computerised accounts over manual bookkeeping, and to familiarise learners with the names of the various accounts packages available.
-Appreciating the importance of data accuracy and confidentiality in financial transactions
-Understanding the importance of keeping regular back-up’s of data in a computerised accounts system.
