Overview
This course seeks to develop an understanding of the inclusion process and of specific learning difficulties. This understanding is developed through the lens of Montessori philosophy and methodology which values the unique potential of all learners and provides a framework within which children can progress at their own pace.

Who is this for?
This programme will suit all learners who have an interest in inclusive childhood education from birth through early years to the first years of primary education. Existing early years and primary professionals, those seeking to work in education, parents with young children and others interested in different approaches to inclusion and specific learning difficulties will all gain valuable insight from this course.

Module 1: Special Education
This module focuses on differentiation and responses to diversity. It introduces learners to practice and planning for children with assessed syndromes and specific learning difficulties. It outlines the Individual Education Plan (IEP) process and the importance of differentiation both in planning and in practice. The theoretical aspects of the module are linked to practice by examining how Montessori concepts, in particular those relating to sensory development and the concrete experience, can be integrated to practice to support children’s learning. This module aims to provide the learner with a deeper understanding of differentiation and responses to diversity.

Qualification: QQI Recognised.
