This one year course is an intensive course designed for students who wish to pursue a career as a Make-Up Artist. This course combines the range of practical skills and theoretical subjects necessary to enable students to specialise in this field to include working on but not limited to Films, TV Programmes/Dramas, Commercials, Music Videos, Fashion shoots, Retail make- up Artists and as private freelance Make-Up Artists. Various Industry related Workshops will be incorporated into the course with Make-up Artists who actively working in the Make-up and Hair Industry. Students will design and create various looks for each module which will be part of the required assignments. Students will supplement their studies with work experience in a relevant area.

Minimum Entry Requirements
Leaving Certificate/Leaving Certificate Applied or equivalent standards of education. A proven ability in Art would be an advantage & students should have an artistic flair. Mature students may be granted exemptions. All entry is subject to interview.

Career Opportunities:
Make-up Artist in the Fashion, Theatre, Film and TV Industries, Private Make-up Consultant, Cosmetic Consultant/Counter Make-up Artist, Consultant Make-up Artist for Cosmetic Houses.

Graduates from this course are currently working in the Media Industry on projects past and present such as The vikings, Into the Badlands, The Man who Invented Christmas and Ripper Street to name but a few. Crumlin College Graduates are also currently working for companies such as INGLOT Cosmetics, MAC, Benifit, Urban Decay, Aveda and on various make-up counters in Brown Thomas, Debenhams, Arnotts and in other leading stores.

Students who successfully complete this course have the opportunity to progress on to other courses within the college which would complement their skill set such as Hairdressing, Beauty and Retail Sales year 2, Beauty Therapy or onto other level 6 awards in their chosen vocational area.

Further information

Mature Students
Students are considered to be mature if they are 21 years of age or over. They must be 21 on or before 1 September in the year of entry.

International Students
All of the courses in Crumlin College of Further Education are provided through English. Applicants whose first language is not English, will be required to demonstrate sufficient competency in written and spoken English prior to commencing their course. Before acceptance on to a course, International Applicants may be asked to take an English Language test organised by the College.

The following administrative arrangements also apply:

All international students must provide appropriate identification documentation.
All international students must demonstrate compliance with residency requirements of the Irish government.
EU nationals will be eligible for the same course charges as Irish students.
The College will not engage in any way in the process of visa applications.

International Students who can access our Courses:
1. EU citizens
2. Stamp 4 holders.
3. Applicants who are in the international protection system who have permission to work are entitled to access VTOS programmes
4. Applicants who are in the international protection system who meet the eligibility criteria for the Student Support Scheme can avail of grants to fund their full-time PLC programme

Yes

There are no tuition fees for Irish & EU Nationals. However, a registration charge is payable & where applicable, membership & exam fees. Students will be notified of the requirements in relation to textbooks, equipment or uniforms when they have been offered a place. Non-EU Nationals are charged fees as set down by the Department of Education & Science - details of these are available from the College.

Grants
Students undertaking any full time Further Education course may apply for a means tested maintenance grant. Application forms are available from www.susi.ie.

Students from designated disadvantaged partnership areas may be eligible for financial assistance towards course charges.

Workshops:

All Make-Up and Hair lecturers on this course are currently working in industry. This is a great opportunity for students to meet real-life industry experts, learn from their extensive experience and meet their prospective employers.

Workshops in various areas of industry will also be held throughout the year. These are in addition to all of the above-listed core subjects. These workshops are subject to change depending on industry availability to include:

Lace Film wigs: Period film research pertaining to hair, lace wig care, dressing, and application. Period hairstyles
Red Carpet, High Fashion hairstyle workshops Various High fashion Industry expert workshops (in addition to fashion make up class)
Film Tattoos - (in addition to class)
Laying on Hair (Italian method) - In addition to Postiche class
Various film workshops with industry experts

All products and techniques are up to date and currently used in the Film Industry. All Make-Up tutors are actively working in the Film and entertainment industries.
