Entry Requirements

Standard minimum entry requirements for all courses in BCFE:
• Minimum statutory school leaving age (16+)
• CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 5 and Level 6 courses for those whose first language is not English.
• Additional requirements may apply to non-EU/EA Applicants and may be subject to full international fees. Please refer to Information for international students.
• A PPS number is required for registration. Please refer to How to get a Personal Public Service (PPS) Number.
• The academic entry requirements may be waived for mature applicants (21+)

Minimum entry requirements for all level 5 courses
• QQI Level 4 award or equivalent
• Five O6/H7 in Leaving Certificate/LCVP or a Merit in Leaving Certificate Applied or a relevant QQI Level 4 certificate.

In addition to the Entry Requirements, for this course you will also need to provide a portfolio of your recent work. Please see the Portfolio field for details.

Careers / Further progression

Progression
• Graduates with a Merit profile can progress directly onto the 2-year HND in Graphic Design Level 6 (AGH) in BCFE.

• Graduates with a Merit profile can also apply to the following Higher National Diploma courses at BCFE:
o Illustration Level 6 (AIH)
o Web Design – Advanced App and Web UI/UX Level 6 (DMH)
o Classical and Computer Animation Level 6 (CCH)

• Graduates of this course may apply through the CAO and/or the Higher Education Links Scheme for entry to higher and advanced certificate and degree programmes at national Institutes of Technology, Technological Universities and Universities such as to NCAD, DIT and IADT, (applicants should confirm linked awards and eligibility requirements with the relevant Higher Education Institution).

Art Portfolio Guidelines
Students applying for the Art Portfolio – Art, Graphics, Printmaking and Visual Communications course should bring to the interview a small selection of original artwork completed within the past year demonstrating Drawing skills and interests.

This original portfolio should contain:
• A selection of recent These can include quick sketches, detailed drawings, photography, paintings or digital art.

Applications and Admissions Process 2024/25:
All applications to Ballyfermot Campus will be accepted after the 6th November 2023 and the closing date for receipt of applications directly to Ballyfermot Campus is the 27th of September 2024. Applications received after this date will be processed as late applications in accordance with the Admissions Policy of Ballyfermot Campus.

This course enables you to create a portfolio that is both dynamic and skills based. AGP covers a wide range of disciplines: drawing, painting, print-making, photography and computer based design.

BCFE uses industry standard software in our digital studio. This gives our students practical experience and skills in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign, which are essential in pursuing a career in Graphic Design and Visual Communications.

AGP portfolios are suitable for design courses as well as other visual arts Many of our students progress to IADT, TUD, LIT, NCAD, Crawford or stay within BCFE to study at HND level.
