Munster Technological University is now offering a 2 Year (part-time) QQI - Level 7 BSc Degree in Engineering Services Management (Apprenticeship Mode), and is aimed at employees with a Level 6 Advanced Craft Certificate, looking to move into Supervisory / Management roles with their employer.

Duration

The course is delivered through Blended Delivery, which is a combination of 1 full day a week (Fridays) of Live Online Classes, coupled with structured 'On-the-Job Learning' in the employees own workplace, comprising of Assignments / Industry Research Project.

The live Online Classes run for a full day online each Friday, where classes are interactive, delivered in real-time and attendance is mandatory.

Delivery: Blended Delivery - 1 Full Day every Friday (Online - Live Delivery & Interaction) combined with 4 Days x Work Based Learning in the employee’s workplace, where assignments and projects will be completed.
Duration: 2 academic years

Entry Requirements

Employees must have a minimum of a Level 6 Advanced Craft Certificate in an engineering service-related discipline* or equivalent, looking to progress into Supervisory / Management roles and must be in full-time employment. (Eligibility via Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL))

*These include Plumbing, Electrical, Electrical Instrumentation, Instrumentation, Mechanical Automation and Maintenance Fitting (MAMF), Metal Fabrication, Pipefitting and Refrigeration & Air-conditioning.

The employer must nominate a Mentor to support the apprentice. MTU will provide Mentor Online Training. The Mentor must have a Level 7 qualification (or higher) in a cognate discipline or a minimum of 4 years in a senior management position.

Careers / Further progression

An Engineering Services Manager will be capable of managing the performance a wide range of mechanical/electrical equipment and associated services in commercial/industrial scale facilities throughout the entire system life cycle. This will involve liaison with designers/consultants, contracting companies, installation/commissioning/maintenance personnel, statutory agencies and end-users.

Key elements include the planning of activities, the identification and management of resources required and performance optimisation given due consideration to technical, commercial and safety/environmental aspects. The Manager will be practised in the supervision of the work of others and in communication with the various stakeholders involved in new project installations and/or in the management of existing facilities.

Employees can be based anywhere in Ireland and Europe as classes are delivered online (1 day per week), combined with ‘on-the-job-training’. Continue to ‘Earn as you Learn’, remain with your employer, whilst gaining an internationally recognised BSc Degree in Engineering Services Management.

Employers can also avail of government grants. This is a consortium-led apprenticeship programme led by the Construction Industry Federation (CIF) with MTU as the Co-ordinating Provider and delivered through the School of Mechanical Electrical and Process Engineering on the Bishopstown campus.
