Our Art, Craft & Design Portfolio Course is one of the longest established portfolio courses in the country. We offer a unique opportunity to try an exciting variety of subjects, along with the use of a huge range of art materials. The teachers’ enthusiasm for their subjects and their expertise is infectious.

This is a one year course but on successful completion of the year students may progress to Art 2, Design 2.

Entry Requirements

A small portfolio of work that shows your interests and ability in art or design. This should include some observational drawing. Work done for Leaving Certificate or art classes is perfect. Please photograph 3D or framed pieces.
All applicants should have achieved Leaving Certificate or equivalent standard.
Mature students without formal qualifications are most welcome to apply.
All applicants will be interviewed.

Career Opportunities

In the past 5 years our graduates have gone on to practice and work in the following areas: art teaching, painting, sculpture, printing and also in ceramic design, photography, textiles, fashion design, graphic design, interior design, architecture, advertising multimedia , animation, film making, make-up for TV and film, Arts Business Management, art therapy. Graduates of this course work nationally and internationally.

Interviews are held a number of times per year from Springtime through to course commencement. The interview simply acts to match the applicant against the course in terms of suitability, commitment and expectation.

Course Description

Art, Craft and Design offers an easy transition from a classroom environment to that of an open studio and gives a great sense of what it's like to be a practicing artist. Our Students gain skills and knowledge that gives them the confidence to produce their best work. This combined with excellent facilities, and individual tutorials leads to the development of a strong and individual portfolio.

Our students forge great friendships that continue onto college. A high percentage of our graduates gain entry into their chosen art and design colleges in Ireland and the U.K. We are proud to say CSN art students go on to win prestigious national and international awards.
